How to Find a YouTube Video You Can't Remember the Name Of
You remember the moment — a phrase, a tip, a fact — but not the title. Here's how to find a YouTube video without knowing the name, using what you do remember.
Why YouTube makes this hard
YouTube's search only matches titles, descriptions, and tags. If the thing you remember was said out loud in the video but never written in the title, searching for it turns up nothing — or a thousand unrelated results.
So to find a video by description or by what was said, you need a method that looks inside the video, not just at its label.
Method 1: Search your watch history
If you were signed in when you watched it, your history is the fastest place to find old YouTube videos.
- 1. Go to YouTube → Library → History
- 2. Use the "Search watch history" box at the top of the history page
- 3. Try any keyword from the title or channel you recall
The catch: history search still only matches titles and channels. If you can't remember either, or you weren't signed in, it won't help.
Method 2: Describe it to Google
Sometimes describing the video in a Google search — the topic, the creator's look, a memorable line — surfaces a Reddit thread or a transcript page that names it. It's hit or miss, and it only works for popular videos other people have written about.
Method 3: Search by what was said (TimeCue)
